Fieldfisher is delighted to have been short-listed for the British Legal Awards, International Litigation and Dispute Resolution team of the year 2020.

In a joint-submission alongside, Akin Gump and Clifford Chance, the firm was nominated for its work on the high-profile Yukos case.

In Yukos Finance BV & others v. Stephen Lynch & others, Yukos Finance B.V. (and others) claimed that in 2007 the five defendants dishonestly colluded in the rigging of an auction of Yukos assets valued at some $1bn.

The judgment followed a 7 week trial last summer and was a complete vindication of the honesty and integrity of the defendants, each of whom carried the weight of the ill-founded claims for over 10 years. Indemnity costs were awarded to all of the defendants.

The Fieldfisher team was led by partners Colin Gibson and Daniel Hayward, and Senior Associates Elora Mukherjee (now Director) and Chris Sweeney, supported by a team of over 20 fee earners in London, Manchester and Amsterdam.

Commenting on the nomination Dan Hayward says, "We are thrilled to be shortlisted for Disputes team of the Year.  It was a genuine team effort. I want to thank our team at Fieldfisher, our counsel team of Andrew Mitchell QC and Alexander Milner (both of Fountain Court), and our colleagues at Akin Gump and Clifford Chance.  This was a ground-breaking case that raised questions that had never been fully addressed as a matter of Russian law - the English Court showed itself, yet again, to be more than capable of determining complex fact and foreign law issues in an objective, fair and comprehensive manner."

The Awards take place on the 19th November.
