The record label is known for creating compilation albums featuring tracks by artists who are signed to other labels.  They have discovered that users of Spotify, the popular music app, are allegedly using these compilations for their online playlists, some even using the words "Ministry" or "Ministry of Sound" in their playlist title.

Ministry of Sound claim that their efforts in creating these unique compilations are protected although it is not yet clear what particular copyright or database rights are being relied upon by Ministry of Sound.

What is interesting here is that the individual tracks of the concerned playlists are licensed to Spotify by the record labels, however Ministry of Sound have yet to come to an agreement regarding the licensing of their compilations and so this is not a case of Spotify users illegally downloading music.

We will keep readers of the Snippets Blog updated as the case progresses.
