Two Bills were mentioned which are of interest to those involved in employment law.

The Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Bill will include measures on workplace dispute resolution including encouraging early conciliation of employment disputes by requiring claimants to lodge their claim with ACAS, re-naming compromise agreements as "settlement agreements" and improving the Employment Tribunal system by increasing flexibility and encouraging employer compliance. The Bill also includes proposals to deal with executive pay, including handing more power to shareholders and remuneration committees.

The Department for Business Innovation and Skills has indicated that the Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Bill is expected to receive an early introduction in the legislative programme.

The Children and Families Bill will contain measures regarding flexible parental leave. The Bill will give both parents access to flexible parental leave so that mothers and fathers can share caring responsibilities. In its "Consultation on Modern Workplaces" last year, the Government also proposed extending the right to request flexible working to all employees with 26 weeks' continuous employment. The Government's response to this consultation is still awaited and it is currently unclear whether this Bill will cover flexible working.

We will update the blog when further details are known.
