It is also indicative of the seriousness with which Manchester City are treating the incident and that they are considering strong disciplinary action.

The next step following an investigation into the incident, assuming that the investigation finds that Tevez's actions are potentially serious or gross misconduct, would be to hold a disciplinary meeting at which Tevez could be accompanied by a colleague or union representative and give him the right of appeal against any disciplinary sanction imposed.
