Hillsborough disaster: Fieldfisher team advises Coroner on 'longest jury case in British legal history'.

The Coroner to the inquests into the deaths of 96 Liverpool supporters at the 1989 FA Cup Semi-Final was advised by a team from Fieldfisher's Public & Regulatory Group.

European law firm Fieldfisher advised the Coroner of the inquests in relation to the deaths of 96 football supporters at the 1989 FA Cup Semi-Final at Hillsborough, Sheffield.

The jury returned their conclusions at the hearing venue in Warrington this week, concluding that the 96 were unlawfully killed.

Partner Tim Suter led the Fieldfisher team which has spent three years advising the Coroner since his appointment in April 2013, working against an extremely challenging time frame to ensure that he was able to commence hearings as he planned, in March 2014. Tim was supported by fellow partner Martin Smith, senior associate Oliver Carlyon and associate Laura Taylor, with the team spending much of the last two years working from the purpose-built court room in Warrington.

The inquests, which are believed to be the longest jury case in the British legal history, heard from 620 witnesses, with over a million pages of evidence reviewed by the team. 532 witness accounts were read to the jury.
