European law firm Fieldfisher has hired a new dispute resolution partner in the firm's Manchester office.

James Lappin joins from DWF where, as an associate partner, he advised a wealth of corporates and individuals from a range of sectors. James has  significant experience of alternative dispute resolution, and  advises on a wide range of issues, with a particular interest in professional negligence disputes..

Commenting on his appointment, James, who was an assessor for DWF's training and development programme and also sat on the firm's recruitment panel, said: "Fieldfisher's relatively recent move into the north west legal market provides a unique opportunity to promote the firm, and its values, to clients both new and existing. The strength of the firm's brand across the UK means it has been able to make a strong initial footprint in Manchester and the surrounding area and I'm looking forward to building on that."

Practising for 16 years at two large corporate law firms, James' experience is diverse. He  recently advised a Dubai-based business in an international fraud case, successfully securing a domestic – and then worldwide – freezing injunction against a former director who appropriated millions of pounds over several years.  He has also acted for clients on negligence claims, as well as in shareholder and partnership disputes.

Colin Gibson, head of Dispute Resolution at Fieldfisher, said: "The firm's dispute resolution practice is growing fast and attracting really high quality work. James, with his wide range of clients and contacts across the north west, is a great addition to the Manchester team."

Ian Austin, partner who heads up the Manchester team, added: "James and I worked together for a number of years previously and we know that we complement each other well. As such I know that James will prove to be a solid member of the Manchester dispute resolution team, which is now up to eight following a strong period of growth."

James, who is recognised by Chambers UK as a 'standout individual', officially started at Fieldfisher on 1st February.
