Fieldfisher has advised the European arm of Japanese interactive entertainment giant Nintendo on the creation and launch of its UK online retail store, which launched on October 7th 2013.

The Fieldfisher team worked closely with Nintendo's commercial and legal teams to successfully launch the Nintendo UK Online Store.

The firm advised on all commercial, IP and regulatory matters, including negotiating deals with key suppliers for technology development and maintenance, warehousing and logistics and customer support; negotiating deals with payment processing providers; advising on data privacy issues; and advising on consumer protection regulation, including rules on digital sales.

The Fieldfisher project team was led by David Lewis, a senior associate in the technology department, and overseen by Palo Alto-based partner Phil Lee, who advised on strategic deal issues. They were supported by e-payments partner Paul Graham, technology associates Nick Ball and Chris Eastham, commercial IP partner David Bond, and privacy specialist Leonie Power.

Phil Lee said: "This really was a ground-breaking project for Nintendo and one that showcases Fieldfisher's market-leading digital media capabilities at their very best indeed.  This project required highly specialised support across a wide range of legal disciplines, which we were able to deliver against ambitious launch timescales and in a way that fully met Nintendo's commercial goals".

David Lewis added: "We were delighted to help Nintendo with this exciting deal."
