Fieldfisher advises National Savings & Investment on £660m Business Process Outsourcing agreement.

Fieldfisher advised National Savings & Investments (NS&I) on the award of a major business process outsourcing agreement to Atos.  The £660m deal covers the delivery of customer-facing and back-office services to NS&I's 25 million customers across its traditional and newer digital channels. It is expected to deliver savings of more than £400m over its seven year term through improvements in processes, infrastructure and technology. The contract is also expected to deliver further savings by leveraging payment processing services across the rest of UK Government.

The project is an example of the innovation that is taking place in large UK government outsourcing arrangements, particularly in driving the efficiencies and savings which new technologies and the increased use of shared services can offer. The award followed an extremely competitive process which attracted some of the biggest names in BPO outsourcing.

Fieldfisher was appointed to advise NS&I following a competitive tender process with Partner Paul Barton and Director Huw Beverley-Smith leading the team, assisted by Partners David Gallagher (Pensions), Richard Kenyon (Employment), Nick Pimlott (Procurement) and Director Gary Pickard (Real Estate).

Paul Barton stated: "It has been a real privilege to work with NS&I's exceptionally capable and focused team. NS&I is a hugely important institution which commands the respect and trust of millions of savers throughout the UK. We are very proud that NS&I entrusted us with the role of advising on this pivotal contract to deliver services to future generations of savers and help the UK Government achieve savings through the use of new technology and the efficient use of shared payment processing services."

NS&I Board member and Director of Operations and Commercial Management Steve Owen, said: "Fieldfisher fielded an excellent and focused team and their commercial and pragmatic advice helped us conclude a challenging procurement as efficiently as possible. This was a hugely significant procurement for us - covering the critical core of our business.  The Fieldfisher team fully understood our needs, the challenging commercial environment in which we work and our culture and values."
