Man dies after staff at St George's Hospital refuse him water

04/07/2012
Richard Earle, medical negligence claims specialist comments on the case of Kane Gorny, after an Inquest highlighted a string of negligent events at St George's hospital in Tooting.

The Inquest in to the death of Kane Gorny, reported in the press this week, highlighted a string of negligent events at St George's Hospital in Tooting, South London. The inquest heard that Kane was denied vital medication and fluid, despite phoning his family and the police to alert them to his plight. The Inquest sparked a Serious Untoward Investigation at the hospital and Westminster Coroner's Court has now passed the information to the police.

Richard Earle, Senior Associate in the Medical Negligence team at Fieldfisher commented; 'this is a terribly sad series of events that brought a premature end to this young man's life. However, similar instances to this can be seen up and down the country on a far too regular basis. Overworked and often under qualified staff making life and death decisions without proper supervision. Sadly, with the proposed NHS spending cuts, this type of incident will be difficult to eradicate in the future'.
