Jennifer Buchanan's case in the Evening Standard yesterday highlights the need for the justice system to take seriously the impact of dangerous driving on the lives of victims. Thankfully, after six months, cyclist Laura Cameron is recovering and is on track to try to regain the strength and ability to pursue her elite cycling training. It's been a painful and difficult time for Laura. Only through Jenny and Fieldfisher's help has she had access to interim funds and the specialist rehabilitative care that has got her to this point. Her previous solicitors hadn’t even located the defendant driver.

"Once again the justice system has failed to treat road crime as crime, and failed an innocent victim. There is no justice here – the victim suffered for six months now with constant pain, was unable to work for four months, and her professional cycling career was jeopardised, while the offender merely received a small fine and shockingly was allowed to continue driving. He could have, and should have, been banned.
Lenient charging and inadequate sentencing not only fail crash victims, they fail to provide the deterrent we need to make our roads safer."
