Fieldfisher celebrate Mavis Nye and Ray Nye receiving honorary degrees from the University of Kent

11/07/2019
Fieldfisher had the privilege of sponsoring an event at Chatham Historic Dockyard on 9 July 2019, to celebrate Mavis and Ray Nye receiving honorary degrees from the University of Kent.

Mavis has been living with the asbestos cancer, mesothelioma, for 10 years, having been exposed to asbestos through washing her husband Ray's work clothes.

With Ray's dedicated support, she has campaigned tirelessly to raise awareness of the dangers of asbestos and to offer help and comfort to fellow sufferers and their families.

Having herself gained benefit from experimental drug trials, she set up the Mavis Nye Foundation with the primary aim of raising money for research into and development of new mesothelioma treatments.

Following Mavis and Ray's graduation ceremony, Peter Williams joined many of their supporters, including medical specialists and families touched by mesothelioma, to pay tribute to the couple's vision, kindness and strength.
