Cycling success for LimbPower and Fieldfisher volunteers!

27/06/2016
This weekend PI MedNeg's Mark Bowman and Annie McBain cycled 189 miles coast to coast from Morecambe to Bridlington with a group of amputees, raising money and awareness for LimbPower. They cycled across the mighty Pennines and the Yorkshire Dales… encountering lots and lots of hills.

Day one saw the most hills with a 20% (super steep) climb out of Settle proving the biggest challenge. Cycling was halted twice for safety due to torrential rain! At one point they were rescued from under a tree in the middle of a storm by a wonderful Yorkshire couple who provided tea, biscuits and towels to the group of wet, stray cyclists in their conservatory!

The group included three cyclists, Jean, Damian and Linda who all have below the knee amputations, and the amazing Anne who is an above the knee amputee. Anne's amputation means that she only gets about 10% power from that leg – and she completed the whole cycle on a heavy mountain bike!

" I am so proud of our team and LimbPower for what we achieved this weekend.  It an awesome challenge. It was fantastic to meet and cycle with such a brilliant group of people.  Watching Anne storm up a hill on her mountain bike yesterday after seeing her nerves on day one was inspirational!"

"It was brilliant to be able to raise money for Limbpower, who are a small but incredibly worthy charity, helping amputees putting their lives back together after tragedy has struck. The 4 amputees that rode with us last week were truly inspiring  and next time I am struggling up a hill, I will think of them and their efforts."
