Professional background

My main areas of practice
I have been advising companies on legal issues relating to digitalization, data protection, and IT and technology law for over 25 years. My particular expertise lies in international data protection law, IT and technology contract law, as well as data economy, cybersecurity, and e-commerce law. I support companies of all sizes - from dynamic tech start-ups to global corporations and public sector institutions - in the legally compliant design and implementation of complex digitization, cloud, and IT infrastructure projects.

A central focus of my work is on the legal design of modern data strategies, the establishment of forward-looking data spaces, and the development and implementation of legally compliant solutions in the field of artificial intelligence. With my many years of experience in advising international technology markets and rapidly scaling digital companies, I offer practical and strategic advice, characterized by a deep understanding of technological contexts and the respective legal requirements.

I have been following regulatory and legal policy developments in the European internet and technology sector for many years and have served as an expert witness in several hearings of the German Bundestag in the context of legislative processes on data law. Among other things, I advised the German Federal Ministry of Economics on the development of the European cloud and data ecosystem “Gaia-X.”

I advise my clients in German and English.

I am co-editor of the journal "Recht der digitalen Wirtschaft (ZdiW)" published by Wolters Klüwer.

I am Chairman of the Board of eco Verband der Internetwirtschaft (www.eco.de) and Chair of the Data Economy Committee of the European umbrella organisation of Internet Service Providers EuroISPA (www.euroispa.org), based in Brussels.

I am also a member of the Board of Trustees of the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (www.irz.de) and a member of the Advisory Board of the Mobility Data Space (www.mobility-dataspace.eu).
