I have a special expertise in intellectual property and advise my clients with an emphasis on trade mark and design law and in unfair competition law.
My clients are German and international enterprises from different sectors, primarily from the technology, automotive, pharma and life science sectors and the retail industry.
I manage large trade mark portfolios and advise my clients on brand clearance, protection, exploitation and enforcement of their IP rights, in Germany, the EU and worldwide.
I advise on trade mark and design strategy and develop litigation strategies against infringements of IP rights. Besides litigation, I advise on agreements about the delimitation of rights and on license, merchandising and purchase agreements.
I regularly represent national and international companies in proceedings before the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA) and in litigation before all major German courts and the Court of Justice of the European Union (ECJ) in trade mark, unfair competition and copy right actions.
Since 2008, I have taught business law at GGS German Graduate School of Management and Law (Heilbronn), an international business school. In February 2012, I was appointed professor for German and European Business Law, Intellectual Property and Technology Law. From 2012 until 2016 I led the Master programme "LL.M. in Legal Management" for in-house counsel and headed the In-house Counsel Institute of GGS.
I studied at the Universities of Constance and Lausanne and the London School of Economics (LSE) and wrote my doctoral thesis on trade mark law at the chair of Prof. Dr. Karl-Heinz Fezer. Previously, I was associated with a leading Germany boutique for IP law for more than eight years.
I am an active member of the International Trade Mark Association (INTA) and the European Communities Trade Mark Association (ECTA). As member of the Harmonization Committee of ECTA, I worked on a proposal of the EU Commission draft proposals for the new CTM Regulation and Second Directive. I am also a member of the German-American Lawyers' Association (DAJV), the German Association for IP and Copyright (GRUR), the German Lawyer’s Association (DAV) and I am an honory member of the German Federal Association of In-house Counsel (BUJ). My expertise is regularly mentioned in JUVE (German equivalent of Chambers), Who's Who Legal Trade Marks, Best Lawyers/Handelsblatt and Chambers Europe and Chambers Global.
I regularly speak at national and international IP conferences and meetings for in-house counsel. Most recently, I spoke at the 32nd Annual Conference of ECTA in Bucharest, Romania, on the ONEL-decision of the ECJ and genuine use of trade marks in the EU. At the Automobile Conference in Heilbronn, Germany, I spoke about the advantage of trade mark protection in the automobile industry.
