Quinton and Shiv join the firm as partners in London to lead a newly expanded team of commercial crime specialists.

Fieldfisher is delighted to announce it has appointed Quinton Newcomb and Shiv Haria-Shah as partners in London to drive a new practice focusing on commercial crime. The team will be led by Quinton as Head of Commercial Crime.

These hires complement the firm's market-leading civil fraud and investigations team, led by partner Tony Lewis, which enjoys an established reputation in civil fraud claims, regulatory regimes, cryptocurrency issues and asset tracing and recovery. The new team will also bolster the capabilities of Fieldfisher's highly-regarded sanctions practice.

Quinton was named in Global Investigations Review's Top 100 2020 rankings as an “outstanding practitioner” in his field, while Shiv is noted for his work advising clients on major corporate investigations and related compliance matters.

Quinton and Shiv join the firm from the self-employed Bar, having most recently been partners at specialist boutique Fulcrum, where they worked together for more than six years managing large, multi-disciplinary teams, before leaving in early 2021.

Quinton joins the firm on 15 December 2021, with Shiv joining in early 2022.

The team will be further strengthened by the appointment of senior associate, William Glover, who is ranked as a fraud specialist by Legal 500 and who joins Fieldfisher in the New Year from the Bar (3 Temple Gardens), having worked closely with Quinton and Shiv on a number of significant matters in recent years.

Another commercial crime specialist will also join the team from the Bar as an associate in the New Year.

Quinton has more than 16 years of experience in commercial crime, initially spending eight years at the self-employed Bar, where he prosecuted and defended. He then spent a further eight years as a Partner (and latterly, Managing Partner) at Fulcrum, focusing exclusively on commercial crime, investigations and compliance.

Shiv also qualified at the self-employed Bar before being hired by Fulcrum, where he was a Partner, for six years. In addition to his experience as a litigator, and in the civil and criminal courts as trial counsel, Shiv also has in-house experience working as a regional leader in the risk and compliance functions of a major listed multi-national company.

In the course of his practice, Quinton has represented witnesses, suspects, individuals and corporates in some of the most high-profile Serious Fraud Office (SFO) investigations of the past decade, including cases involving engineering and transport giants Rolls-Royce and Alstom and major mining groups Rio Tinto and ENRC.

Both Quinton and Shiv bring extensive experience of conducting internal investigations, and advising and training corporate clients on good governance and compliance procedures, helping them guard against regulatory risk.

Quinton sits on the Editorial Board for LexisNexis’s Corporate Crime PSL Service, writes for Lloyd’s Financial Crime Law Reports, and sits as a criminal Recorder in the Crown Court.

Shiv was elected to the Bar Council in 2016, was a founding board member of an organisation that seeks to improve ties between the UK and India, has previously sat as a magistrate and worked for a former member of the Cabinet.

Commenting on the appointments, Colin Gibson, Head of Dispute Resolution at Fieldfisher, said:

"We are thrilled to welcome Quinton and Shiv to the Fieldfisher partnership. Their appointment reinforces our reputation for handling prominent commercial crime disputes and complements our excellent civil fraud practice. It adds an important and exciting component to what we do.

"Their experience of acting on extractives industry investigations in particular fits extremely well with Fieldfisher's flagship Energy and Natural Resources sector expertise and we look forward to deepening our capabilities in this area."

Quinton Newcomb, newly-appointed Head of Commercial Crime at Fieldfisher, added:

"My aim is to champion and grow the commercial crime practice at Fieldfisher and I am excited to be joining a firm with such firepower and a strong international and domestic reputation for disputes and civil fraud work.

"Fieldfisher is committed to building a market-leading practice, handling the most significant commercial crime, investigations and compliance work globally, with a dedicated and highly specialised team. I look forward to working with both my new and longstanding teammates to realise this goal."
