Fieldfisher is delighted to announce that Zaakira Allana, a director in the firm's leading dispute resolution practice, has been appointed to the Law Society's Ethnic Minority Lawyers Division (EMLD) Committee.
The EMLD supports and promotes black and ethnic minority solicitors and their allies through the provision of career-enhancing events, information and networking opportunities.
The EMLD's committee provides leadership and plays a decisive role in curating and hosting events that promote inclusion and diversity in The Law Society and the wider legal profession.
Appointment to the committee is via a competitive application and interview process, which assesses candidates' suitability for the role and the benefits they can bring to the EMLD.
Zaakira, who is based in Fieldfisher's Birmingham office, maintains a broad practice of commercial disputes and has a particular interest in energy and construction and engineering disputes.
Zaakira is dual-qualified to practice in England & Wales and New York, and is studying part-time for a Masters in International Law. Having worked in Egypt and Dubai, she has a good understanding of business and culture in the MENA region and regularly visits business contacts there.
Commenting on her appointment, Zaakira said:
