Metaverses and Extended Reality

While augmented and virtual reality have been around for many years across several sectors, extended reality has re-emerged into public consciousness—particularly with the recent focus on the metaverse which allows users to immerse themselves in virtual, integrated 3D worlds. Early beneficiaries are likely to include consumer marketing and gaming businesses who are able to deploy the technology to enable deeper user experiences and new forms of audience engagement.

Extended reality also has many use cases outside the consumer space, with applications of AR/VR, haptics, and smart surfaces being deployed in industries such as aviation, construction, defence and security, medicine, and agriculture.
