Working with regulatory bodies as well as businesses operating in highly regulated sectors, I provide focused strategic advice under the relevant regulatory frameworks. I frequently assist clients seeking to challenge or defend decisions made by public bodies as well as conduct independent investigations, reviews and audits.
I sit in both of Fieldfisher's European Digital Health and Life Sciences groups, as well as being an active member of the Association of Regulatory and Disciplinary Lawyers (ARDL).
Recent work includes:
- A secondment to the assessment team of a legal regulator.
- Supporting witnesses in the Southport Inquiry and the Urology Services Inquiry.
- Acting on behalf of two charities in appeals against National Institute of Care Excellence (NICE) – the body responsible for new healthcare technologies for NHS use and consideration of their clinical effectiveness and monetary value.
- Conducting an independent audit of decisions made over a three-year period, on behalf of a health and social care regulator.
- Representing the UK Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) in a landmark judicial review case that reaffirms the TRA’s investigative approach and clarifies the scope of its legal obligations.
- Acting for Jersey Hemp in a landmark judicial review claim against the Home Office concerning the meaning of the exempt product criteria contained in Regulation 2 of the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001.
