International Workers Memorial Day: Remember the dead, fight for the living

Shaheen Mosquera and Natalie Amara attended the asbestos memorial in Barking in April, organised by Susan Aitouaziz, Secretary of the Barking, Dagenham & Havering Trades Union Council.

This follows on from an unveiling last year of a memorial to remember asbestos victims in Barking who had worked at the Cape Asbestos factory.

Shaheen said the assembled company took time to remember the innocent victims who lost their lives because of exposure to asbestos. The Fight for the Living tagline took on added gravitas, she said, because union members shared very worrying stories about how they are still encountering asbestos in their workplaces.
