Settlement for young girl following delayed diagnosis of hip dysplasia at Royal Berkshire Trust

The claimant's parents were concerned about their daughter who was walking with an out-turned foot. She was referred to hospital by her GP for further investigations but despite attending multiple appointments at the hospital Trust, she did not receive a diagnosis of bilateral hip dysplasia until she was more than three-years old. Once she was diagnosed, she underwent bilateral hip reconstruction aged three-and-a-half.

Because of the delayed diagnosis, the Claimant underwent more extensive surgery than she otherwise would have needed and a worse long-term outcome.

The hospital Trust made some admissions for their failures of care and the claim ultimately settled for a six-figure sum to compensate the claimant for her injuries and to pay for future private medical expenses, therapies and care when needed.
