Katie is a Director in Fieldfisher’s Intellectual Property team, with a practice spanning the full IP lifecycle. She has particular expertise in copyright and trade mark litigation, and regularly advises clients on brand protection and IP commercialisation strategies.
Katie has acted in leading IP cases before the High Court of England and Wales and the Federal Court of Australia, representing clients across the social media, technology, luxury, agriculture and fast-moving consumer goods sectors. Her copyright experience includes complex infringement matters involving computer software, including a case in Australia that resulted in one of highest awards for additional damages.
Katie is especially interested in the intersection of copyright law and artificial intelligence, and is currently advising on the landmark Getty Images litigation in the UK High Court. She also has significant experience in trade mark prosecution and litigation, including successfully defending Google in High Court proceedings concerning “YouTube Shorts.”
Prior to joining Fieldfisher, Katie spent five years in a Tier 1 IP practice at King & Wood Mallesons in Sydney. She previously served as a Judge’s Associate in the Supreme Court of South Australia and holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons Class I, University Medal) from the University of Adelaide. She has also completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law and Practice at the University of Oxford.
