I advise on all aspects of the development of renewable energy projects from the planning permission phase through to the development, construction, financing and operation stages.

I have extensive knowledge of the continuously evolving Irish and European legislation regulating energy projects in Ireland. This includes the conditions governing support schemes available to energy projects and the rules governing participation in the Irish electricity market.

I previously acted as sole in-house counsel to Galetech Energy Developments Limited (“Galetech”), a large renewable energy development company with a portfolio of renewable energy projects in Ireland, Northern Ireland and Africa. I also represented Galetech in judicial review proceedings in respect of its wind farms.
I have an in-depth knowledge of the renewable energy market in Ireland and the obstacles which can delay or prevent the development of such projects. This enables us to work with our clients to eliminate and overcome such obstacles at an early stage in a transaction.

I advise a range of banks, developers (both private and semi-state), investors and key industry representative bodies within the Renewable Energy sector. I acted as legal adviser to a large renewable energy development company in the first ever judicial review of a wind farm planning decision in Ireland. The judgment issued in these proceedings contains some important principles relating to the form in which the planning authority in Ireland delivers its planning decisions and the judgment has been reaffirmed in numerous cases since.

I regularly present lectures, training and workshops, for clients on a range of renewable energy law topics.
