The creation of a consolidated banking and finance department will allow the firm to capitalise on financing, refinancing and insolvency growth areas in Spain.

Fieldfisher JAUSAS has appointed Jacobo Otero as a partner in its Madrid office to lead the banking and finance department.

Jacobo brings extensive experience in banking and finance, and joins Fieldfisher JAUSAS from Pinsent Masons, having previously worked at CMS Albiñana & Suárez de Lezo.

He is an expert finance lawyer who has repeatedly advised the principal Spanish financial institutions and outstanding national and international funds and companies on a large number of corporate finance, acquisition, project and real estate transactions, among others.

Jacobo primarily focuses on the technology, real estate (including hotels, logistics and residential), energy and maritime sectors.

He joins Fieldfisher JAUSAS effective April 2021.

Commenting on his appointment as Head of Banking and Finance at Fieldfisher JAUSAS, Jacobo Otero said:

"In this new chapter at Fieldfisher JAUSAS, I want to consolidate the banking and finance practice, providing the firm’s clients with quality advice while placing special emphasis on excellence and proximity”.

Managing Partner of Fieldfisher JAUSAS, Jordi Ruiz de Villa, added:

"A banking and finance department has been an aspiration of ours ever since our incorporation into Fieldfisher, as it should allow us to provide services to international clients in the network, while also taking advantage of opportunities in the national market.

"We believe that large financing and refinancing operations, along with insolvency activity, will become one of the sectors to experience the greatest growth within the firm in the Covid-19 era.

"Fieldfisher JAUSAS plans to continue to grow, with partners and boutiques in sectors where we already have experienced partners."
