European law firm Fieldfisher has hired Simon Sloane as a partner in its Dispute Resolution practice.

Simon is an international arbitration specialist, with a particular focus on the energy, construction, hotel & leisure and insurance industries. He joins from Reed Smith's Singapore office, where he'd been since its establishment in 2012, having joined from Holman Fenwick Willan - a firm he'd been at since 1995 and where he was made partner in 2003.

Singapore-based since 2006, Simon has experience advising clients across Asia, Europe and the US. He has worked on some of the largest and most complex business interruption insurance recovery claims and has an in-depth knowledge of supply chain exposure as well as issues around wide area damage and loss of attraction. He has spent time on long-term secondments in the insurance industry, working as in-house counsel to clients based in both the UK and the US.

Simon, who is recognised by both Chambers and Legal 500 for his expertise, has advised clients including Rio Tinto, The Banyan Tree Group, Formosa Industrial Corp., Minebea and Ericcson, amongst others.

Colin Gibson, head of Fieldfisher's Dispute Resolution practice, said: "Simon's areas of focus, coupled with his strong network of clients and contacts across the UK, US and the ASEAN region, mean that his joining presents us with a great opportunity to continue growing our international arbitration offering, which is already very strong. Our dispute resolution practice is growing fast and attracting high quality work, and Simon's arrival will only boost that."

Simon Sloane said: "Fieldfisher is strong across all of the sectors I focus on and as such has always been an attractive firm to me. I see a great opportunity for me to drive forward the firm's international arbitration practice across these business lines."

Simon starts at Fieldfisher today, 1st March 2016.
