Fieldfisher appoints leading media lawyer

United Kingdom

European law firm Fieldfisher is pleased to announce that Stephen Saltzman has joined as a partner in the firm's Media practice in London.

Steve is a highly acclaimed media lawyer, most recently appearing in The Hollywood Reporter's Power Lawyers 2021: Top 100 Attorneys.  Steve has extensive experience in domestic and international transactions in the entertainment and media industries.  He focuses on innovative and complex international distribution, co-production, and co-financing transactions as well as cross-border transactions involving the creation, production, financing, and/or exploitation of content, and brand building.

Steve assists high-profile international talent and financiers in navigating complex, high-value deals. He recently advised Chinese studio Huayi Brothers International, which co-bankrolled the largest indie film to complete production in 2020, Roland Emmerich's $140million Moonfall.  Steve also recently advised esports team TSM (Team SoloMid) in one of the largest sponsorship deals in the industry with the crypto currency exchange, FTX.  Steve advises a broad range of clients across the media and entertainment spectrum, including US, European and Asia-based producers, production companies, studios, theme park operators, distribution companies, broadcasters, digital content companies (including esports teams), banks, film funds, directors, talent, and authors.

Tim Johnson, Head of the Media Group at Fieldfisher, says:

"Adding Steve to our Media team is a significant boost to our growth plans.  Steve's deep experience of cross-border deals is an excellent fit with our existing media practice and our network of offices in Europe and Asia.  It will strengthen our offering to clients seeking expertise across continents.

"Having known Steve since the 1990s, I know his legal expertise is deep and impressive and his profile in the sector is pre-eminent; I am really looking forward to working with him and to further enhancing our reputation as a go to law firm for clients in the media and entertainment sector."

Steve adds:

"I have known Tim for a long time, working on initiatives together from both sides of the Atlantic.  I am excited to be joining his team at a time when I think there are significant opportunities in the UK, particularly in a post-Brexit world where the UK is now one of the most cost-effective international locations to shoot large-scale feature films and streaming series."

The Managing Partner of Fieldfisher's German offices, Philipp Plog comments:

"I am delighted by Steve's arrival.  His knowledge and experience of the German market is perfectly aligned to our strategy of servicing our growing portfolio of digital and media businesses in Germany and across Europe."
Steve joined the firm as a partner on Monday 4th October.
