Fieldfisher appoints Jean-François Germain as Co-Managing Partner with Claudio Mereu in Belgium

European law firm Fieldfisher announces today the appointment of Partner Jean-François Germain as Co-Managing Partner of its Belgian office, effective 1st November 2019. Jean-François replaces Stijn Debaene, who was appointed in May 2015 and will be standing down with immediate effect, to focus on leading the firm's thriving Intellectual Property practice.

Claudio Mereu's appointment as Co-Head of the Brussels office has been renewed, having been first appointed in 2015. Claudio also heads Fieldfisher's EU Regulatory practice in the Brussels office.

Claudio joined Fieldfisher in 2007, and has successfully built the firm's EU Regulatory practice into one of the strongest and most highly respected in Brussels.
Jean-François, who joined the firm in 2008, has been a partner since 2011 and heads the Dispute Resolution practice in Brussels. His team is one of a handful in the Belgian market to offer its clients a full range of Dispute Resolution services, including court proceedings, arbitration and mediation, as well as crisis management and (pre) litigation strategies, at domestic and international level.
Both Managing Partners commented: "On behalf of Fieldfisher's lawyers and staff, we would like to express our appreciation for Stijn's work and major contribution to Fieldfisher's success over the past years.
"We are delighted to start working together and we are looking forward to continuing further expanding Fieldfisher's presence in Brussels on both the EU and domestic legal markets and strengthening its already well-established name and reputation."
Michael Chissick, Managing Partner of the firm since 2012, added: "I am very proud of what has been achieved by the Brussels office under the management of Stijn Debaene and Claudio Mereu since they started back in 2015 and am very grateful to both of them, as well as to the staff and support staff for their continuous support over those past years.
"I wish to sincerely thank Stijn, who will return to full-time law practice. Both Claudio and Jean-François are excellent lawyers, problem solvers and hold the confidence of the firm's clients.
