Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP today announces two partner hires, strengthening the firm's pan-European intellectual property practice. Trade marks and competition partner Dr Jakob Guhn, formerly of Bird & Bird, will join the firm’s Dusseldorf's office this week and in September will be joined by patent partner Dr Ulrike Till who will join from Hogan Lovells, strengthening the firm’s patents and patent litigation practice.
The hires come four months after the opening of Fieldfisher offices in Dusseldorf and Munich and are part of the firm’s strategic growth plan for Germany.
"We set out to develop two of the most important locations for intellectual property in Europe and aim to further advance the firm’s pan-European IP practice," says Dr Joachim Feldges, Germany's Managing Partner. "We already enjoy a first-rate reputation for patent litigation and want to continue to build on the firm's expertise by hiring leading lawyers in this field. Furthermore, the soft IP practice in our Hamburg office will gradually be built up in Dusseldorf and Munich as well."
Jakob Guhn advises clients on trade marks, designs and competition law with a focus on enforcing and defending trade marks and designs in court for international companies as well as on the protection of related IP rights and unfair competition. He is also widely experienced in setting up anti-counterfeiting programmes. Jakob worked in Fieldfisher's London office whilst a trainee and has been with Bird & Bird since 2005.
Having worked in both the UK and Germany, Ulrike Till is an IP expert focusing on international patent disputes in the pharmaceutical and chemicals industries as well as in the technology and telecoms sectors. She is certified to practice in England, Wales and Germany and has a PhD in physical chemistry from Oxford University. Before joining Hogan Lovells in 2009, she worked for the IP team of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP in London and started her career at Bristows.
Fieldfisher opened its first German office in Hamburg in 2007 and expanded its German practice by integrating two former Howrey offices in Munich and Dusseldorf in March this year. The firm has now 21 lawyers in Germany, including eleven partners. Expanding the German practice is part of a focused plan for growth in the UK and Europe, concentrating on IP and technology, regulation and corporate law.
