Fieldfisher has hired former Baker & McKenzie of counsel Luke Whitmore, who will join as a partner in its Derivatives and Structured Finance Group. He will start on 14th October.

Luke has experience in a broad range of derivatives and structured products, including interest rate and currency swaps and options, credit default swaps, total return swaps, equity derivatives, stocklending, repurchase transactions, synthetic CDOs, regulatory capital-driven structures and synthetic securitisations. He also has extensive experience in the prime brokerage and futures market acting for both broker-dealers and end-user clients.

Following the spate of insolvencies in the financial services sector, Luke has advised on the termination and close out of both industry standard and bespoke derivative documentation. He also has experience of negotiated settlement of such transactions with the relevant insolvency officers. Additionally, Luke has been active in advising clients on the implementation of the European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR) and the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD).

Luke has been at Baker & McKenzie since 2012, having previously trained, qualified and practiced at Clifford Chance from 2004 to 2012. He is an active participant on several industry panels including the International Securities and Derivatives Association (ISDA), the Association for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME) and the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA).

Fieldfisher Managing PartnerĀ Michael ChissickĀ said:

"We are recognised for the excellence of our structured finance and derivatives people. With Luke's arrival, we are showing our ongoing commitment to expanding our specialised finance offering to our clients. His focus on the prime brokerage space is especially valuable, and we hope it will play a significant part in our growth plans."
