Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP has assisted the BBC's in-house legal team on the tendering of its TV licence fee collection contract resulting in the selection of the Capita Group plc in a deal worth approximately £560m over eight years.
The BBC awarded the contract to Capita to administer TV Licensing's collection, administration and enforcement services. Capita will transform the current service using updated technology and analytics to increase revenues whilst reducing costs. The contract, which replaces two existing contracts held by Capita and iQor, will commence on 1 July 2012 and is expected to save the BBC over £220m.
The project was led by the BBC's in-house legal team, headed by Anthony Vittadini, with support from Fieldfisher technology partner Michael Chissick and employment and pensions partner Michael Calvert.
Michael Chissick said: “The firm has a long relationship with the BBC and we are pleased to have supported them on yet another deal. This contract will ensure significant savings for the BBC allowing more money to be spent on programmes and services.”
The firm recently advised BBC Worldwide on its investments in two independent production companies, Slim Film & Television and Burning Bright Productions Limited.
