MEPs vote in favour of safer lorries

The European Parliament Transport Committee has this week made a key vote in favour of bringing safer lorries to the streets of London. Proposals are afoot to allow new lorries to be made up to 500mm longer, but after campaigning  from Transport for London and London Cycling Campaign these proposals have been amended so that the new lorries can only be allowed if they have an energy absorption system at the front to minimise the impact in collisions with other road users, and must also have better direct vision so that drivers can see cyclists more clearly when they are close by.

Sadly the UK government remains opposed to these proposals. We urge them to think again.
