£200,000 recovered for young woman given unnecessary cardiac treatment at Glenfield Hospital
In fact, Sarah was suffering with sinus tachycardia, a benign symptom of stress and anxiety. She should have been referred for psychological support and certainly did not require any cardiac treatment whatsoever.
During the unnecessary treatment, the Defendant ablated her sinus node, the heart's "natural pacemaker". As a consequence, Sarah, only in her early twenties, had to have a mechanical pacemaker fitted. She continued to suffer further complications and this unnecessary cardiac treatment has marred the past decade of her life. She has struggled to care for her disabled daughter and her teaching career has been derailed by her ongoing ill health.
Sarah's case settled at mediation for £200,000.
