International Paralympic Committee
Another programme exclusively supported by trainees at the firm, Fieldfisher provides clerking to the IPC for classification hearings. Para-athletes have a right to challenge the decision of which classification they are placed in ahead of a competition and in recent years these challenges have increased. Unable to keep up with demand, the IPC turned to the firm for support in clerking these appeals. Alongside this work, the firm provides volunteers to assist at championship events. This included the recent World Para Swimming Championships in London; staff from across the firm volunteered for the event, doing everything from welcoming spectators, to chaperoning athletes and even taking part in the medal ceremonies.
"Classification
of athletes is of fundamental importance to the success of Para sport. With the
increase in athletes appealing against their classification, the IPC has faced
an increased demand for appeal hearings. Receiving clerking support from
trainees at Fieldfisher has greatly assisted us in being able to meet this
demand. The trainees provide clerking support to our appeals, making sure that
parties get their cases heard and that they receive a decision which is not
only quick but is comprehensive. This has been invaluable to the Paralympic
Movement."
