Professional background

I am Head of Banking & Finance at Fieldfisher LLP and, together with my fellow partner, Emma Spiers, Co-Head the Financial Markets & Products group.

I specialise in leveraged finance, acquisition finance, venture debt and growth capital, real estate finance (with a particular focus on hotel acquisition and development financings) and workouts and restructuring. I act for UK and international lenders, including private debt funds and platform lenders, private equity sponsors, corporate borrowers and retail and commercial property investment and development funds.

I advise on a wide range of banking and finance transactions, in particular, UK and cross border acquisition finance transactions (ranging from SME lending to private equity backed leveraged buyouts, management buy-outs/buy-ins and Employee Ownership Trusts), corporate M&A (including bilateral, club and syndicated loans to corporate borrowers) and restructuring and refinancing matters (including recapitalisations, equity cures, debt for equity swaps and pre-packs).

My main focus is on the firm's Financial Services sector.  However, given the asset classes funded by my lender clients and the nature of my borrower side clients' businesses, I'm also involved with our Technology and Life Sciences & Healthcare sectors.

I qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2001 and am a member of the Law Society of England and Wales.

I like to spend much of my spare time with my two young children.  Alternatively, I can be found looking for my golf ball in the rough on a golf course somewhere or following my beloved Liverpool FC.

ESG in the DNA

09.08.2023
The adoption of ESG principles in venture capital is still in its early stages. However, there are some key reasons why it will accelerate. Low investment in 2022 and a significant amount of uninvested capital, coupled with institutional investors' preference for ESG-compliant businesses presents real opportunities for early-stage, high-growth businesses.
