Professional background

Professional background

I have represented witnesses and suspects, individuals, and corporates, in some of the most high-profile commercial crime investigations and prosecutions of the past decade, including those in relation to Alstom, Rolls Royce, Rio Tinto, and ENRC.

I have managed many crisis responses for companies, including those entailing the conduct of complex cross-border internal investigations across the globe and advised multinational companies on their economic crime compliance procedures.  Recent matters have included conducting investigations involving financial services and listed companies, which has required intensive engagement with key stakeholders, including auditors and regulators, in addition to shareholders.  My team and I are proactively engaged in advising multinational clients on their fraud and broader economic crime risk assessments, in response to the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023.  Other recent experience also includes advising companies responding to enquiries from HMRC, NCA, and the SFO, advising on criminal law implications of ransomware attacks, and assisting those with exposure to investigations for breaches of health and safety regulation.

I have acted as an expert witness in relation to commercial criminal law.

My experience includes working with clients across diverse sectors including energy and extractives, financial services, food and drink, transport, logistics, and sport.

I was appointed as criminal Recorder (part-time Crown Court judge) in October 2020.

A keen sportsman, I am a veteran of five consecutive Lawyers’ Cricket World Cups, in which I led the Bar of England and Wales as captain, and two marathons (London and Vienna).
