Professional background

I advise clients on the protection and enforcement of their intellectual property rights. I act for both international and domestic clients in relation to disputes on a wide range of rights including copyright (for both artistic and technology related works), database rights, trade marks, passing off, designs and domain names. This is from initial strategic advice through to settlement and, if required, litigation.  I have experience assisting clients in various forums including the High Court, the Intellectual Property and Enterprise Court and the European General Court. I also advise clients on non-contentious matters including protection strategies for their trade mark portfolios and commercial contracts.

I advise clients across a broad spectrum of industries from the media and entertainment sectors to sporting data and public bodies.

I was the lead assistant acting for Ordnance Survey from the pre-action stages of a dispute through to a two-week High Court trial in its successful defence and counterclaim of a highly technical case concerning copyright and database rights and breach of contract (77m Ltd v Ordnance Survey Ltd [2019] EWHC 3007). I acted for Genius Sports in a claim for infringement of database rights against Betconstruct and others, which settled out of court in December 2022.  I also acted for Getty Images in their claim against Stability AI for infringement of various IP rights including copyright relating to AI generated content, with primary involvement in the early stages of the dispute.

Indefinite does not mean forever: practical lessons for licence agreements from Dame Zaha Hadid case

31.03.2026
The Court of Appeal’s recent decision in Zaha Hadid Ltd v The Zaha Hadid Foundation ([2026] EWCA Civ 192) will be of interest to many businesses well beyond its unusual facts. The real significance lies in the practical guidance it offers on long‑term IP licences and what happens when agreements are expressed to last "indefinitely" but say little about how they can end.
