Professional background

I lead a large team of solicitors who practise in the area of public, administrative and regulatory law.
 
I advise statutory and regulatory bodies in respect of all aspects of their functions including registration/licensing, education and competence, investigations/inspections, the preparation and presentation of fitness to practise/professional conduct Inquiries, prosecutions and the defence of statutory appeals and judicial review proceedings.
 
I also advise statutory regulatory bodies in respect of matters relating to corporate governance and have prepared training programmes for Committees and Boards/Councils of statutory bodies. I regularly advise clients in respect of potential areas for statutory reform and the implementation of amending legislation and the drafting of codes, procedures and guidelines.

I am an experienced litigator and have defended statutory appeals and judicial review proceedings before the Superior Courts, including before the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. I have managed a number of the seminal cases on behalf of statutory regulators. I have also advised clients in respect of the prosecution of offences before the District Court.

I regularly prepare statutory applications to the High Court, including emergency suspension applications and enforcement applications. I routinely advocate before Committees/Councils and the Courts.

I have a proven ability to ensure that clients receive timely, focused, practical legal advice.

I have lectured on the University College Dublin Graduate Diploma in Health Care (Risk Management and Quality) & Professional Cert in Medico-Legal Aspects of Healthcare and the Law Society's Diploma in Healthcare Law
