Professional background

I am a partner in Fieldfisher LLP (Ireland) and head up the insolvency and restructuring department. I am an insolvency practitioner with more than 20 years’ experience and I have acted in many of Ireland’s most high profile liquidations, receiverships and examinerships of recent years.

I act for many of Ireland’s lending institutions and am involved in multiple High Court, Commercial Court and Court of Appeal litigation against defaulting borrowers, personal guarantors and syndicated property companies and partnerships.

I act for most of the leading insolvency practitioners in Ireland in their roles as receivers, liquidators and examiners.

I have considerable experience in commercial litigation generally, dealing with many issues from shareholder and partnership breakdown to various forms of contractual and tortious disputes.
I have an excellent blend of technical skills combined with a strong negotiating style.

I adopt a hands on, yet approachable manner, enabling me to deliver a tailored, efficient legal service.

I have advised court appointed liquidators in nearly 100 Official Liquidations and advised the various stakeholders (directors, shareholders, creditors and banks) in many more.

I also act for the Insolvency Service of Ireland (ISI) in relation to all aspects of bankruptcy law and the many Court applications required to manage Ireland’s bankruptcy community.

I regularly lecture in the Law Society of Ireland and in the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ireland on insolvency law matters. Most recently, I designed and delivered a Diploma course on Advocacy in the Law Society in November 2018.  I have also contributed to many industry publications including the Law Gazette and Accountancy Ireland.

I was elected Chairman of Restructuring and Insolvency Ireland (RII) the body which represents all insolvency practitioners (lawyers, accountants and barristers) in Ireland and a former chairman of the RII Law reform Committee. I am a former member of the INSOL Technical Committee.

AI's emerging role in Irish Litigation

08.05.2026
The rapid adoption of generative artificial intelligence (AI ) across the legal profession has inevitably made its way into Irish courtrooms. From research and document summary to the drafting of submissions, AI tools are now an increasing feature in litigation practice. The Irish courts’ response to the use of these tools has been measured but firm: AI may be used as a tool, but responsibility, transparency and verification remain human obligations.
