Psychologists Registration Board of CORU established

On 21 July 2017, the Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD, signed into effect the Psychologists Registration Board (Establishment Day) Order 2017 (the “Order”). The Order provides for the establishment of the Psychologists Registration Board (the “Board”), under Section 26(3) for the Health and Social Care Professional Act 2005 (as amended). It also provides for the appointment of members to the Board. The first meeting of the Board is scheduled for 19 September 2017. ... The Order provides for the establishment of the Psychologists Registration Board (the “Board”), under Section 26(3) for the Health and Social Care Professional Act 2005 (as amended). It also provides for the appointment of members to the Board. The first meeting of the Board is scheduled for 19 September 2017. The Board will have responsibility for:
  • The establishment of a Register of members of the profession;
  • The assessment, approval and monitoring of training courses for psychologists;
  • Establishment of the Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics and standards of performance to which psychologists are required to adhere.
Psychologists will be regulated by CORU, a multi-profession regulator with the responsibility for regulating professional conduct and maintaining registers for a number of professions including Social Workers, Occupational Therapists and Optometrists. Registration Boards of CORU which are awaiting establishment include:
  • Clinical Biochemists
  • Orthoptists
  • Podiatrists
