Renewables and data privacy practice areas set to grow in line with increasing client demands
25 August 2023: European firm Fieldfisher has signalled its intention for growth in Ireland after agreeing a 10-year lease at Mespil Road along the grand canal in Dublin City Centre. Fieldfisher entered the Irish market in 2019 following a merger with McDowell Purcell, which has held a presence in Dublin for more than 120 years. It currently employs 120 staff across several practice areas, with ambitious plans to further grow its teams and its footprint in the Irish market over the coming years.
Fieldfisher Ireland is a full-service law firm with practices in corporate and commercial law, public and regulatory, real estate, employment, litigation, technology, data protection and privacy, renewables, insolvency, and environmental and planning law.
The firm’s new location at Mespil Road will see its team grow both on-site and remotely through the firm’s hybrid work model, as it continues on its path of ambitious growth.
Located in a prime position directly across from LinkedIn’s new European headquarters at Wilton Park, 45 Mespil Road is a newly developed standalone building comprising 4,460sq m of grade-A office accommodation distributed across six floors.
The Irish office is well-positioned to serve clients in Ireland and abroad with the support of the wider Fieldfisher network of more than 1,800 people working across 26 international offices in 12 countries.
Speaking of the move to Mespil Road, Fieldfisher Ireland's Managing Partner JP McDowell said, ‘This is a significant milestone in the Fieldfisher Ireland story and reflects both the growing needs of our clients, and our commitment to delivering for them.

This has been particularly valuable in certain growth sectors, such as renewable energy which is attracting huge attention internationally, as well as corporate and commercial transactions, where we are regularly working with our Fieldfisher counterparts throughout Europe, Asia and the US.’
He added: ‘We’ve also seen a variety of needs emerge from clients in areas such as employment and technology, as sectors and industries get to grips with ever-increasing regulation and reporting requirements in the short and medium terms.’
Earlier this month, Fieldfisher appointed Ciara Burke to Data Protection and Privacy Partner. Ciara will lead and grow the Data Protection and Privacy offering in the firm's Dublin office, at a time of rapid change across the data protection and privacy landscape in the Irish as well as the global market.
The firm aims to grow revenue by 25% over the next three years, with the new location set to fuel that growth as well as supporting talent acquisition both through lateral hires and the identification of merger opportunities.
Since the merger of McDowell Purcell with Fieldfisher in 2019, Fieldfisher's Dublin office has gone from strength to strength, recording 9% revenue growth in the financial year 2022/2023. The figure confirms that seizing opportunities in the local market, while collaborating with European counterparts on wider matters, produces exceptional results and will remain the key part of the Irish growth agenda.
The team looks forward to welcoming clients on-site at its new premises in the coming weeks and months, including international Fieldfisher managing partners who will visit Dublin for a country managing partner conference later this year.
