Commercial Podcast Series - Episode 3: The Dutch Franchise Act

On 30 June 2020, the Dutch Parliament's upper house passed the Dutch Franchise Act ("DFA"). The DFA is due to enter into force in January 2021, and it means that the Netherlands now joins a number of other European countries to have a franchise-specific law.

In the podcast, Gordon Drakes (co-head of Fieldfisher's franchising team) discusses the DFA with Manish Bahl, a partner at the firm's Amsterdam office who specialises in commercial and competition law. Their discussion covers the popularity of the franchise model in the Netherlands, the reasons behind the genesis of the DFA and the key areas to note in the new legislation. As an important European economy which is seen increasingly as a favourable location for international businesses, it is important that businesses understand the reach of the new DFA.
