Wellness starts with you

In conjunction with Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK, Fieldfisher is pleased to kick off its annual Wellbeing Week with activities revolving around this year's theme of 'loneliness'.

As we slowly get our lives back to normal, at home and at work, many of us are still feeling the after-effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. One of the main challenges in the past two years has been loneliness and isolation across all age groups, and the legal profession is no exception.

At Fieldfisher, the wellbeing of colleagues has always been a top priority and we are committed to offering a range of support initiatives, benefits, and services to preserve and improve the wellbeing of all our people. Throughout our Wellbeing Week we will be sharing webinars, videos, and other opportunities to help staff take care of themselves holistically, whether it be social, financial, physical, or psychological wellness – to maintain positive mental wellbeing.

We are signposting our support services available to colleagues across the four pillars of wellbeing:

Physical wellness

Although we often think of our mind and body as separate entities, physical and mental wellness are deeply integrated. Research shows nearly 1 in 3 people with a long-term physical health condition often suffer from depression or anxiety. Similarly, people suffering from mental ill health often have preventable physical health conditions. With this in mind, the firm takes a rounded approach to our wellbeing offering. To support people with the physical wellness pillar, this week, we will be holding a series of two-minute positive mental wellbeing videos on breathing and mindfulness from our yoga coach.

Psychological wellness

Mental wellness is a public health issue around the world and the pandemic has deepened the mental health crisis. It is estimated by the Mental Health Foundation that 1 in 6 people in the past week experienced a common mental health problem.

In line with this year's theme of 'loneliness' for UK Mental Health Awareness Week, we will be promoting a range of support services available to all colleagues including:

  • a qualified mental health resilience support team
  • in-house cognitive behavioural therapy services
  • domestic abuse support services and
  • other regular hybrid support services organised by our personal development teams.

Financial Wellness

During the Fieldfisher Wellbeing Week we will be holding a session focused on building financial security, including making short, medium, and long-term goals, and providing practical and bite-sized tips for how to manage personal finances.

Social wellness

A natural antidote to loneliness and isolation is the opportunity to socialise and interact with other people be it a friend, a colleague, or even a stranger. In a truly hybrid fashion, we are using Wellbeing Week as an opportunity to remind our people of all the social activities that are available to join throughout the Fieldfisher network, including in-office events and social clubs that are now back in fashion again.
