Our Space Projects team supported Lonestar Data Holdings with space regulatory advice on the first successful commercial landing on the moon on 22 February on Intuitive Machines’ Odysseus NOVA-C lander. Lonestar successfully tested its data centre concept in Cislunar space and then from the Moon. The in flight tests of the Independence Payload for premium data storage mark an unprecedented technical achievement for a new era in premium data storage and Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS).

Lonestar's forthcoming plans include a range of increasingly sophisticated data centres on, in, and around the moon, including their next mission later this year.

The Odysseus craft created by Intuitive Machines and including the Lonestar Data payload is the first private company mission to successfully land on the moon.

Fieldfisher Partner and Head of the firm's award winning Satellite and Space Projects group, John Worthy, who advised Lonestar, comments: "This is a truly amazing achievement. With the start of a commercial presence on the moon, we can look forward to many more exciting opportunities to develop a new lunar economy, supported by a whole range of commercial businesses. Another giant leap for humankind! We are delighted to have played a part in making history."

Chris Stott, CEO and Founder of Lonestar Data Holdings added: “The hardest thing about getting to space is getting permission and John and his team at Fieldfisher have proven a critical part of our team."
