Fieldfisher has hired a leading securitisation partner

European law firm Fieldfisher has hired Richard Todd into its Derivatives & Structured Finance Group. Richard joins from Mayer Brown where he was a partner in the firm's Banking & Finance team.

A very experienced lawyer, Richard has an in-depth knowledge of the securitisation space and advises clients across a wide range of asset classes including trade receivables, consumer loans, mobile handset receivables and auto loans and leases, as well as commercial and residential mortgages, loan portfolio sales and supply chain financing. He is especially well-known for structured finance transactions funded by asset backed commercial paper (ABCP) conduits.

Richard is the second Mayer Brown lawyer to move to Fieldfisher in recent months, following on from Jayne Backett – a real estate finance specialist who joined Fieldfisher as a partner in the Banking and Asset Finance Group in September. Jayne advises across the capital structure, with experience across acquisitions and investments, loan portfolio financings and real estate restructurings.

Guy Usher, who heads the firm's Derivatives & Structured Finance practice and is leading the firm's Finance and Financial Services strategic focus, said: "Richard's hire is a demonstration of our ambitions and his securitisation practice will put us firmly on the map for new deals and arrangers and originators. Jayne's reputation in real estate finance is definitely complementary."

Richard Todd said: "Fieldfisher's success both in the UK and across Europe – and its reputation – are really starting to stand out in the legal and client market. I was impressed by the strength and size of its Derivatives & Structured Finance practice: it already has a very well-known derivatives team and we want to achieve similar recognition in structured finance. I'm really looking forward to working with Guy and the team to achieve that."

Richard joined Fieldfisher yesterday, 31st October.
