6-figure settlement for young boy exposed to EcoliO157 during farm visit

Claire settled a case on behalf of Charlie*, an 8-year-old who contracted Ecoli O157 during a farm visit and went on to develop HUS, a serious kidney condition that warranted dialysis and inpatient hospital treatment.

Charlie was also severely traumatised by the experience and suffered from a number of ongoing health problems after the infection.

Expert medical evidence in numerous specialisms was required to establish causation and prognosis. It was complex to prove which aspects of Charlie's presentation were due to the negligent exposure to Ecoli.

Claire helped Charlie's family to establish the rehabilitation support that he desperately needed while the claim was ongoing, and carefully gathered evidence from family and teachers regarding his condition. Given the numerous ongoing health difficulties that Charlie experienced, she instructed expert witnesses in nine specialisms to clarify the injuries caused by the negligent exposure to the bacteria, and his physical, psychological and psychiatric prognosis.

After careful consideration of the evidence, she prepared a detailed schedule of loss claiming immediate and provisional damages. The claim settled at a round table meeting for a six figure sum plus provisional damages should Charlie experience kidney failure in the future.
