A guide for in-house counsel in managing new country legal due diligence & reporting
Many companies have responded to the increasing flow of capital and investment back into the oil & gas sector through a re-examination of the exploration opportunities within their portfolios. Opportunities will inevitably exist in countries and territories where a company has no presence, thereby increasing the above ground investment risk. In-house counsel can play a leading role in both identifying such risks and instigating measures aimed at mitigation to levels that are acceptable to senior management. This paper has been produced incorporating the experience of senior oil sector legal counsel at Fieldfisher and drawn from industry to serve as a practical guide to in-house counsel when performing this exercise.
