RSS feeds help
What are News feeds?
News feeds are also known as RSS which stands for 'Really Simple Syndication'. In essence, the feeds themselves are just web pages, designed to be read by computers rather than people.
News feeds allow you to see when websites have added new content. You can get our latest news, publications and events in one place, as soon as its published, without having to revisit www.fieldfisher.com.
How do I use the RSS feeds?
To be able to use RSS feeds, you will need something called a news reader. This is a piece of software that checks the feeds and lets you read any new feeds that have been added. Most browsers already have this functionality and some, including Firefox, Opera, Safari and Internet Explorer 7 to 9, will automatically check for feeds for you when you visit a website, and display an icon when they find one. For more details on these, please check their websites.
However some versions, such as Internet Explorer 6, don’t support RSS feeds requiring you to either upgrade or change your browser, or download a separate RSS reader application. Browser-based news readers let you catch up with your RSS feed subscriptions from any computer, whereas downloadable applications let you store them on your main computer, in the same way that you either download your e-mail using Outlook, or keep it on a web-based email service.
How do I get a news reader?
There are a range of different news readers available and new versions are appearing all the time. Different news readers work on different operating systems, so you will need to choose one that will work with your computer. News readers are as follows:
- Newz Crawler
- Mac OS X
- Microsoft Live
- My Yahoo!
- Mozilla Firefox
- Other news readers (Google)
Using the RSS feeds on www.fieldfisher.com
Once you have chosen a news reader, all you have to do is to decide what content you want it to receive. Our website will allow you to subscribe to the following information:
On each of these pages you will notice an orange button in the RSS news feeds section on the left hand side of the page. Once you click on the RSS feed icon, you will be able to subscribe to the feed.
You can also choose to tailor the feeds you receive to a particular sector, practice area or office. If you would like to do this, simply use the search facility in the top left corner of the events/publications/or news page to specify your preference and click the ‘search’ button. You will be given the option in the RSS feed panel to subscribe to your search. If no search results come up, you will be given the option to expand your search.
