James Setchell, Chartered Trade Mark Attorney, IP and Technology, Protection and Enforcement
I am a chartered trade mark attorney and Trade Mark Attorney Litigator, with over 20 years experience working in the field of brand and trade mark protection. I advise a wide range of national and international clients in a number of sectors including financial and business advisory services, media and entertainment and for manufacturers of household and consumer products. Prior to joining Fieldfisher, I worked in-house as a Trade Mark Manager for a well-known international alcoholic drinks company and in private practice.
I have extensive experience in advising clients on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious trade mark, registered design and related copyright issues. By virtue of my many years in the trade mark field, I have expertise in the development and implementation of brand protection strategies which includes, early stage and pre-filing advice on trade mark clearance, trade mark and registered design filing and prosecution and handling disputes including trade mark oppositions, invalidity and revocation actions. I am also a UK qualified Trade Mark Litigator.
I am an active member of The Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (CITMA), previously serving for many years as a member of its Governing Council until March 2016. I am also a contributor to the "Trade Mark Handbook" (a professional publication primarily aimed at UK trade mark practitioners) and until 2013 was a Board member of the Joint Examination Board (JEB), the former body governing the professional trade mark examination system for candidates wanting to qualify as a UK Trade Mark Attorney.
