Hamish Sandison, Consultant, Technology, Outsourcing and Privacy
I am the founding Chair of Fieldfisher Consulting, overseeing its consultancy business and serving as a bridge between the Fieldfisher law firm and the Fieldfisher consultancy. Hamish has been a partner in Fieldfisher's technology law group since 2008. Prior to that, he was a partner at Bird & Bird, and its Chair for over 6 years. He is dual-qualified as an English solicitor and as a US attorney, having spent 8 years practising law in Washington DC. He has law degrees from Cambridge University and Berkeley Law School in California.
I have a leading reputation in technology law, with over 24 years’ experience advising UK clients in the public and private sectors on some of the most high-profile government procurement projects. He specialises in commercial work for public sector clients, including public procurement, major PFI and PPP projects, large-scale business process outsourcing transactions, cutting-edge IPR and e-commerce issues, data protection, freedom of information and alternative dispute resolution. He has also advised major users of IT systems and services in the private sector and leading suppliers of IT to the public sector.
Hamish has written and lectured around the world on IT law and intellectual property. He is the co-author of books on software protection and international copyright laws, and lectures annually on software protection and data base rights at Oxford University. Computer Weekly has called him “an ever trenchant interpreter of the law.”
Hamish has been active politically, standing as a Parliamentary candidate in 2010, and as a candidate for Police and Crime Commissioner in 2012. He chairs the Labour Party's Task Force on Public Procurement, and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Labour Finance and Industry Group – Labour's link to the business community.
Chambers UK 2015 describes me as "a real stalwart of the IT practice"
