Frankie Smith, Chartered Legal Executive, IP and Technology, Protection and Enforcement, Fieldfisher

I am a Chartered Legal Executive in the IP and Technology, Protection and Enforcement department at Fieldfisher, having qualified in April 2019.  I originally joined the firm as part of their Step2Success programme, which offered post A-Level students a pathway into a legal career whilst studying the Chartered Legal Executive qualification with CILEx.  I am currently studying the Legal Practice Course and am due to cross-qualify as a Solicitor in 2021.

I predominantly advise on the protection and enforcement of trade marks nationally and internationally, including initial clearance, devising filing strategies, prosecution of applications, absolute and relative ground objections, and contentious matters including opposition and invalidity and cancellation actions. I have a particular interest in the trade mark regime in China and all of its nuances.

In addition to this, I also advise on issues relating to copyright, design rights, domain names and anti-counterfeiting. My experience includes acting for start-ups, high-end fashion retailers, food and beverage manufacturers, and downstream oil and gas companies.
