Diana Sternfeld, Partner, Fieldfisher

Diana is a patent litigator with particular expertise in biotechnology patents.

As well as acting in all UK courts, she advises on international disputes and coordinates and assists with actions in other jurisdictions and patent offices. Her patent career began with the land mark case of Biogen against Medeva (the first case involving a biotechnology patent to be considered by the House of Lords) and in 2015 she chaired a reunion of the people involved to celebrate the 20th anniversary. Since that case she has acted in many significant cases, in particular, in the life sciences sector. One of her key clients throughout that time has been GSK and its predecessor companies.

She is an active participant in the Bio Industry Association and has been a Member of the Board since 2011. She is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys and an accredited mediator.

"Diana Sternfeld of Fieldfisher is a highly experienced patent litigator whose recent activity includes advising on the co-ordination of a multi-jurisdictional dispute concerning innovative vaccine products. A client praises her "unfailing calmness and politeness, matched with a shrewd rigour and a technically and legally adept mind," which makes for "an unusual and highly effective combination.""

"Diana Sternfeld has recently been ranked in Band 3 for IP patent litigation (London) and life sciences (UK-wide) in the Individual's Rankings in Chambers UK 2018.  She is described by a client as an "incredibly hard-working and knowledgeable" litigator who "has a supreme knack for putting together a great team and managing them to get the best out of everyone involved." She focuses on representing biotechnology companies in complex patent litigation."
